I got this idea from a Family Fun Magazine article that asked kids to explain why their dads were the best dads. Here is one little girl's letter:
"When I had a surprise tea party in the backyard, my dad put on a suit and said he was our butler. He told my friends and me to call him "James," but that is not even his name. He offered to do everything for us, like wash our faces, unwrap our cupcakes, and even rub our feet!!! He was the only boy there, but he made us laugh until our tummies hurt. He even made up stories about working for us for years. I don't think many dads would do that. I am a lucky girl!" -Arianna Evans, Age 10
Teasers: Leave an invitation attached to a tea cup at the kids’ bedsides, inviting them to a spectacular tea party the next morning. Signed, the Butler “James” and the Maid, “Rose.”
“Rose” (mom or another female adult friend or family member) awakens children in the morning in her best English accent, helping them get dressed in their best morning tea clothes. James (dad or another adult friend or family member) greets them as they come to breakfast with scones, muffins, etc. and their favorite tea (or whatever they might like to pretend to be tea). All the kids’ favorite stuffed animals should be waiting for them, with their own place settings and proper attire.
Rose and James should be the perfect servants, offering to rub kids’ feet, paint nails, dust the table, etc.

Tea Cake Recipes
Petit Fours: Make bite size sandwiches by cutting your kids’ favorite sandwiches into fourths with toothpicks through each morsel. Even if they are just peanut butter and jelly!
Dress Up: The kids can help you dress up themselves, their stuffed animals, and YOU before the tea party.
Winding Down:
Books: Angelina Ballerina: A Very Special Tea Party, Miss Spider’s Tea Party, Fancy Nancy, A Bargain for Frances by Russell Hoban (A Bargain for Frances is one of my all time favorites!)
Movies: Any ideas?
Journal: Record each child’s thoughts on this family fun day or birthday tea in the back of this binder along with a few photos and maybe a few drawings.

We have little tea parties all the time. It's such a fun girlie thing to do. Usually it's just Kool-aid and crackers or an occasional chocolate muffin. I can't wait for Nicole to get a bit older and want to dress up for them. I loved the story that girl shared...precious!
Ahhh...to have a daddy like that!! I can see John doing that for Maryn in a few years. You could always have Madame Maxine (your mother) host a tea party for her too! LOL
